Enhance your vehicle’s and data acquisition capabilities with our OBD II CAN Bus Pigtail Kit.
Our Vehicle CAN Library contains presets for a large of vehicles, however many of these presets will not work with the limited CAN data on the diagnostic bus present at the factory OBD II connector.
The solution is to add a 2nd OBD || connector that connects to the correct CAN bus, usually referred to ad the powertain, PT, or drive CAN bus.
This kit allows you to tap into the desired CAN bus and output the signals directly to the standard OBD II connector CAN bus pins (6 and 14). This allows you to connect an OBDLink MX+ Scan Tool and other devices supported by our Vehicle CAN Library.
For added convenience, the OBD II connector is equipped with integrated mounting tabs, providing versatile options for secure and stable placement within your vehicle.
Included are four Posi-Tap connectors, enabling quick and secure tapping into existing vehicle wiring. Alternatively, the two ground wires can be independently grounded using a customer-supplied ring terminal, offering increased routing flexibility. Similarly, the +12V power connection can be established via a customer-supplied fuse tap, providing a protected and reliable power source.
Wiring
Please note the wiring colours used, and double-check your connections. You must strip approximately 1/4″ of insulation off of each wire in order to use it with a supplied positap connector. We suggest adding a 1A inline fuse (not included) to the power line for maximum protection.
- Pin 6 (CAN High) – Yellow
- Pin 14 (CAN Low) – Brown
- Pin 16 (12v Power) – Green
- Pins 4 + 5 (Chassis Ground) – Black
We also recommend connection the 12v power wire to a power source that is switched with the ignition.
